Engineered Fiber Links for High-Speed Data Center Applications - Design, Testing and Trends

This seminar will focus on common data center reference architectures deployed in support of higher speed applications and the standards requirements that drive the fiber cable plant to be designed as an "engineered link/channel". Application power budgets shall be explored from the context of standards that control the optoelectronics (IEEE/ANSI) vs. those that specify the cable plant (IEC/TIA). Pitfalls associated with tight field test specification of pre-terminated fiber systems for such applications (based on manufacturer test results) will be discussed in the light of the real capability of portable testers in the field. Finally, best practices are discussed (proper test limit specification, field test, inspection and cleaning, etc.) such that field test costs are minimized.
